Synonym. Aspirin.The dosage form. The drug is synthetic, available in tablets of 0.25, 0.5 g, baby pills to 0.1 g.

Therapeutic properties. Acetylsalicylic acid has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic properties, thins the blood and prevents the formation of blood clots.

Indications for use. The drug is used as an antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and pain reliever, in febrile conditions, rheumatism, infectious-allergic myocarditis, neuralgia, radiculitis, as well as for conditions that threaten the development of blood clots.

Rules of application. Acetylsalicylic acid is administered 3 to 4 times a day orally after meals, washed down with alkaline water (Borjomi, soda). Dosage, duration of treatment individually prescribed by a doctor and may vary. As a febrifuge dose is 0.25 — 0.5 g 3 — 4 times a day.

Side effects and complications. The most typical and frequently encountered complications when taking acetylsalicylic acid are: dyspepsia (nausea, stomach pain). Long-term use can cause gastritis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, gastro bleeding. Sometimes there are allergic reactions: bronchospasm, angioedema, skin reactions. Some risk to the fetus is the use of acetylsalicylic acid by pregnant woman.

Contraindications. You cannot assign the drug to patients with gastritis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, intestinal, gastric bleeding and reduced blood clotting, asthma. The drug is contraindicated in pregnancy.

Storage. In a dark place. The shelf life of the powder is 5 years, tablets — 4 years.
